Randi Brookman Harris, You’re Awesome

August 10, 2009

I stumbled onto designer Randi Brookman Harris’s website while looking at examples of beautiful portfolio presentation. What I found was way better than that!

I adore this color scheme.  It’s reminiscent of a vintage-feeling tea party— and the paper lanterns just add to that delicate feeling.  The punch of orange-red next to the pale lavender is just gorgeous.  And so many flower combinations possible for accompaniment! Purple crocuses, lavender, hyacinth, hydrangea, red poppies, gerbera daisies, lavender and sunset “fire” roses, some nice freesia… the list goes on.

Flower sculpture, diy lamps and finally, a use for that white elephant gift

August 10, 2009

I love when designers use mediums in unexpected ways – like flowers to sculpt some art! The awesome piece below is by Steve Bales for Atlantan Bride Magazine.  I can totally see this same sculpture in black flowers (or white), with some black and white striped table linens for a Tim Burton style twist.

Or this lamp, a flea market find that was transformed into a lamp (below).

Apparently, according to stylecourt.blogspot.com, any old lighting center can transform a crazy statue for you. So theoretically, that weird ceramic clown I got from a white elephant party can be a quirky lamp. It might be less disagreeable that way. Or more. Hmm, can’t decide.
